Tuesday food hero: Anthony Bourdain

Here at Sillis, one of our all-time food heroes has got to be the legendary Anthony Bourdain. Pretty much the funniest, grittiest tale about food and life as a chef, Kitchen Confidential is, as the man himself terms it, a book about his “adventures in the culinary underbelly.”

Anthony's also famously tried warthog's bum... fancy that on the specials for next week?

Dating his obsession with food back to the first time he tried oysters in France, Bourdain describes life as a chef as one mingled with misfits, drugs and sex. Whilst we’d say our days here at Sillis might not be quite as exciting as that, Bourdain’s memoir/expose certainly sheds light on what life is like working in the world’s top restaurants like New York’s Michelin-starred Brasserie Les Halles.

Anthony Bourdain – known for eating a whole cobra (with its heart still beating!)  in Vietnam on his TV show Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, claims that the most disgusting thing he’s ever eaten is… a Chicken McNugget. Well Anthony, you’re welcome to come to Sillis any time, and we’re pretty sure our Halloween specials will be a damn sight more tasty than an entire cobra, or indeed a chicken nugget.

Check out the book on Amazon here.
He’s also pretty funny! Mooch on over to his Twitter.
